Interview - Master Informatics

After having checked your documents, we may invite you for an interview at the Department of Informatics in Garching. The interview is usually done by a professor and a research assistent and lasts about 20 minutes.

What is it about?

The interview helps us to find out if you will be able to sucessfully finish your studies. The following criteria are of particular interest to us:

  • your motivation for studying informatics and how you see your professional future
  • your comprehension for abstract, logical and system oriented problems
  • the way you solve complex problems and your perseverance doing this
  • your communicative skills
  • your practical experience relevant to your future professional activities

You are not required to know anything of the contents taught in the Master's program Informatics, nor will there be an extensive written test. However, the commission can ask you about what you have learned during your Bachelor's program, especially for knowing whether you need a bridging course or not.

Dates and Invitation

International applicants living abroad will be contacet by e-mail for an interview by phone. We will make an individual appointment.

If you live in Germany, please select your  favorite date when applying via TUMonline. We try to give you this date, but we can not guarantee that you will get it. Please note that you can be invited for the interview up to one week before it takes place!

At the time of application it is not clear yet whether you have to do an interview or not (see:  1st stage).

Please consider: Due to the high number of applications we receive per semester, we cannot guarantee that you will be invited for your favorite date to Garching nor can we postpone the date.
In very few exeptional cases you can apply for a new date giving us the reasons for your absence. The new date will be scheduled no later than two weeks before the start of the semester.
