Munich is deservedly among the most popular places to study in Germany. Here one can find a mix of students, young professionals and guests from all over the world. In the summer the beer gardens and lakes all around Munich invite one to just relax, and in the winter those who love winter sports will find a leisure paradise in the Alps. The museums in Munich are renowned worldwide and those interested in culture could choose among a variety of 100 theatres and concert halls.
Studying at the Garching Campus
The Faculty of Informatics is located at the Garching Campus. It is one of the largest centres for science, research and teachings in Germany. The campus lies north of Munich and is directly connected to the city centre by its own subway station. Many faculties of engineering and natural sciences "Naturwissenschaft" of the TUM as well as LMU institutions or institutions of the Max-Planck-Association are united on the Garching Campus; the proximity facilitates interdisciplinary research projects.

Greater Munich is a powerful location with respect to information and communications technology. No other city in Germany can boast of as many companies in the fields of IT, software and communications as this one. Big players such as Apple, Adobe, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Microsoft and Sun Microsystems are located here. It can compete with other locations worldwide: Munich and its environs belong to the most important IT economic areas along with Silicon Valley, Boston, Greater London and Tel Aviv.
Our students benefit from this: Due to the direct proximity to IT companies students can make contacts early on. Working in research and development projects students can work directly with companies and get to know the practical side of the business. Or they can go work in companies as student trainees. This is the perfect point of departure for the start of their careers.
