Which language certificate do I need?
For all our Bachelor's programs: German language certificate
For the Master's programs mainly taught in German: German and English language certificate

For our Master's programs taught in English: English language certificate
- Informatics
- Biomedical Sofware Engineering
- Computational Science and Engineering
German
In all our Bachelor's courses and some of our Master's courses the language of instruction is German. Therefore you need to be proficient in German and provide a certificate when applying. It is not possible to be admitted without the certificate!

Please consider that you have to register for the tests up to 2 months in advance!
English
A proof of your proficiency in English is required for all our Master's programs (for those mainly taught in German as well)!
For the Master's programs Informatics, Information Systems, Biomedical Computing, Robotics and Automotive Software Engineering, submit one of the following certificates:
- TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
- Internet based Test (IbT): 79
- Computer based Test (CbT): 213
- Paper based Test (PbT): 550
The Institution Code of TU Muenchen is 7806.
- IELTS (International English Language Testing System): 6.0
Please do the Academic Format, the test for General Training is not recognized!
- Cambridge Main Suite of English Examinations
- Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE)
- Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE)
If the language of instruction in your school or university has been English, and you have a final degree from this institution, please send us a certificate from your school or university stating that the language of instruction was English.
Attention! The level you need to reach is different for the other degree programs. Get informed at the respective website!
