Master of Science Informatics

Targeting mainly international students, the Master’s program in Informatics can be completed in four semesters. It is a consecutive degree course, taught in English and based on a Bachelor’s degree in Informatics or in a similar course of study.

Structure of the program and possible specializations

The English speaking program in Informatics is fully integrated in the Department's Master's program in Informatics which offers courses in both English or German. The program offers a large variety of courses and allows you to focus your studies on your preferred areas.
You can specialize by choosing from the most important areas in Informatics:

  • Software engineering
  • Databases and information systems  
  • Artificial intelligence and robotics
  • Computer graphics and image processing
  • Computer architecture
  • Distributed systems and computer networks
  • Formal methods and their applications
  • Algorithms and scientific computing

You will attend lectures, lab courses and a seminar and you will participate in software development and research projects. Additionally, the curriculum covers an interdisciplinary project (in Mathematics, Medicine, Business Administration, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering), and soft skill courses.

Perspectives

The Master’s program in Informatics is research-oriented. It encourages and enables you to work independently according to high academic standards. It qualifies you for a PhD, for leading software development projects, and for executive positions in business and management.  

TUM offers talented PhD students a large number of scholarships and positions in research projects, many of them in the context of collaborative research with industry.
