Improved Study Conditions Through the Introduction of Tuition Fees

As of the 2007 summer semester, all students must pay a tuition fee of 500 Euro per semester. This is the reason why the university has more funds to improve academic studies and teachings. These contributions will be used in part for main projects; the other part will go directly to the faculties.

 The Faculty of Informatics appoints the assigned contributions corresponding with the legal guidelines exclusively towards the improvement of teachings and general study conditions. Examples include personal resources allocation such as tutors for small exercise groups, the establishment of an Infopoint, a contact point where all your questions can be answered, enhanced course counselling, increased support for students wishing to study abroad, student assistants for collaboration in research groups, but also relevant expenditures for the creation of lecture notes or for the improvement of library services.

Students equally take part in the decision making process about the distribution of funds.  The concepts for the improvement of study conditions will be created from a specially selected committee (quality circle) consisting of faculty members and student representatives. Students are extensively involved in the implementation and control of tuition financed arrangements.  Through a central office (Qualitätsreferent) students are additionally invited to give their opinions, feedback and complaints about teachings and about student conditions. Improvements will result from an analysis of student opinion and feedback. Students are encouraged to take advantage and make use of all the services made available through the allocation and use of tuition fees. Furthermore, students are invited to participate in the implementation and organization of these individual measures for the improvement of student conditions.
