New digital technologies are giving companies more and more opportunities to capture, integrate, and analyze information. To seize opportunities such as the introduction of intelligent products, they need specialists for planning and implementing inter-connected holistic IT systems. Information engineering considers the entire chain from the sensor to the IT system to the business model and is thus a significant building block in the digital transformation.
The Bachelor's program in Information Engineering at TUM Campus Heilbronn conveys the knowledge and skills necessary to design IT systems along the entire life cycle of the resource information. It offers you the opportunity to acquire solid theoretical, practical, and technical skills in a constantly evolving field and prepares you for your role as an information engineer.
Please note: This program is taught entirely in English and is offered only at TUM Campus Heilbronn. It will start in the winter semester 2021/22 as a pilot phase. As a student, you will benefit from small courses and a supervisory relationship that is as individual as possible. As of now, we plan to offer all lectures and tutorials on-campus.
Applications for the winter semester 2021/22 are open from May 27 until July 31.
During the three years of study, you will be prepared to participate in the design and implementation of cyber-physical business systems across different disciplines. In addition to a strong informatics core, the program teaches foundations of business and electrical engineering to establish speaking skills in these disciplines. You will deepen this knowledge continuously in practical exercises and project work. In the process, you train social and communication skills.
In the semesters 1-4 of the program, you will learn about the essential concepts and principles of programming languages, algorithms and data structures, software engineering, database systems, computer networks, and cyber-physical systems. Furthermore, you will acquire knowledge in mathematical basics, like analysis, linear algebra, and discrete mathematics. You will move on to study the fundamental concepts of information systems, such as enterprise architecture management and business process management and will learn how to present a scientific seminar paper.
In the semesters 5-6 of the program, you will set an individual focus and choose a research area from a large pool of special courses from the fields of informatics and management. You will also apply your theoretical skills in a joint project with industry partners and complete your final thesis.
The Department of Informatics encourages its students to spend a part of their studies abroad and supports them in doing so.

We are looking for motivated individuals who enjoy logical problem-solving tasks and are fascinated by information systems, computer networks, software architecture, and economics. Previous knowledge of informatics is not necessary, but you should possess the ability to recognize problems, understand them, and work towards finding effective solutions. You should also be able to demonstrate an aptitude for mathematics and an interest in the natural sciences. You should be able to communicate well with others and work as part of a team. Since this program is taught entirely in English, advanced English language skills are recommended for admission to this program. Depending on your background, it may be necessary for you to keep working on your language skills during your studies. Be sure to take a look at the services of our Language Center.

After your degree, numerous opportunities arise, whether in the form of direct employment at a corporation, freelance work, or the continuation of your studies. The next stage is the master's degree and, thereafter, a doctorate. The Master of Science in Information Engineering (at TUM Campus Heilbronn) is expected to start in the winter semester 2022/23.
Should you decide to embark on a professional career after the successful completion of your degree, you can take up employment as an innovation manager, project manager, information manager, consultant, or software engineering. You can work in all industry sectors, including business, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics, and medicine. Graduates of the Technical University of Munich pursue leadership positions in IT and corporate management.
