TUM Venture Lab Software/AI

As entrepreneurial innovation centers, the new TUM Venture Labs uniquely drive technology-based spin-offs at the interfaces of artificial intelligence and software engineering with other fields within engineering, natural and life sciences, and medicine. They support entrepreneurial talents in spin-offs from research around promising innovation focal points in translating their research to business creation.

What are the TUM Venture Labs?

The TUM Venture Labs, an initiative by TUM and UnternehmerTUM, supported by the CDTM and fortiss, are new entrepreneurial innovation hubs supporting entrepreneurial talent in tech-based business translation from research to business creation.

The objective is to transfer unique research expertise into the start-up hub Munich to increase the quality and quantity of scalable technology spin-offs and companies in the region to become a leading technology center and driving force in Europe.

Within this initiative, the TUM Venture Lab Software/AI aims to boost Software (SW)/AI innovation and to build up a cross-functional SW platform to target interdisciplinary fields of the future.

 

Venture Lab SW/AI Mission

The mission of the TUM Venture Lab SW/AI is three-fold:

  • First, we want to accelerate scalable business ideas and startups in the Software & AI field.
  • Second, we want to advance the development of software/AI solutions for business ideas across disciplines and Venture Labs.
  • Third, we want to support scientists in turning their research into viable business ideas.  

The TUM Venture Lab SW/AI is the central platform for business models based on AI and Software 2.0 and promotes interdisciplinary innovation with other TUM Venture Labs (deep-tech software development). To achieve this, various educational courses, venturing programs, networking events, and access to resources and funding are offered.

 

Who are we looking for?

Our target groups are directly aligned with our two main goals, namely providing a universal learning platform for all AI & SW enthusiasts, while at the same time helping experts in the field of Artificial Intelligence and Softwaredevelopment scaling their business ideas. Our target group consists of three generic groups.

Scientists:  

  • You are a scientist (PhD student, postdoc, professor, etc.) at TUM and want to learn more about how Software Engineering and/ or Artificial Intelligence can support your field of research? No matter where your research focus lies, our educational offerings can support you.
  • You are close to finishing your dissertation and want to evaluate whether it could be turned into a business? You are not sure how to do that or where to find the right co-founder? Check out our venturing formats.

Students:

  • You are studying Informatics (or similar) at TUM and would like to explore how to use your skills to tackle real-world problems, eventually even founding your own company? Join our education and venturing offerings.
  • You are studying in a field other than Informatics, but are curious why “software is eating the world”, want to better understand software and artificial intelligence and collaborate with Informatics students? Then our education offerings might be just the thing you are looking for.

Machine Learning Training Camp (Register Now!)

Our ML training camp provides participants the mathematical foundation and basic technologies of machine learning, beginning with common tools for dimensionality reduction, to current deep learning approaches and reinforcement learning. Participants will be able to answer the questions: “What is ML? How does it work? How do I benefit from ML? Participants will also be able to develop and apply simple ML models. OWASP Top 10 - Cyber Security for Everyone

The OWASP Top 10 is a regularly-updated report outlining security concerns for web application security, focusing on the 10 most critical risks. In addition to the theory, we will have a live-hacking session to understand the vulnerabilities of out-of-the-box wordpress instances. You will learn about the top 10 vulnerabilities of websites and how to prevent them, as well as understand the risks of a default Wordpress instance.

Interaction Design for Everybody

You want to make better product decisions, understand your users and act in their best interest? Then it is time to learn the basics of Interaction design. Interaction design is "the practice of designing interactive digital products, environments, systems, and services." The course provides the basics of Interaction Design in interactive sessions.

Clean Code

Get to know the value of why and how to develop software professionally. Gain expertise and practical experience to support your development skills and career. We provide basic foundations of clean coding and agile practices, beginning with common development workflows such as branching. In pair programming sessions, you are challenged to refactor an exemplary software system, implement new features, and peer review code from other participants.

ML Engineering

The goal of this seminar is to help startups create reusable code, share knowledge and follow best DevOps and ML-Ops practices without having a huge up-front  investment. All of this would allow them to get results at least as fast as before, with the difference that the results will now be backed by much more robust solutions. The focus will lie on theoretical lectures about AI Software Engineering, DevOps and ML-Ops principle, as well as hands on training and workshops in short projects.
