Our Renowned Professors

The world-class professors at TUM Informatics bring into the classroom their extensive scholarship and wide-ranging research experience. Prize-Winning Scholars

Our professors are highly regarded in the international research community. The awards and recognition they have received include the following:

  • Six faculty members were awarded the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize, the highest scientific award in Germany.
  • Two professors were given the IEEE Computer Pioneer Award, considered to be the "Nobel Prize" of computer science.
  • TUM Informatics researchers also received the Germany’s most important computer science award, the Konrad Zuse Medal.
  • We also have two Humboldt Professors. The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation draws on an endowment of five million euros to enable the world's leading scientists to conduct research in Germany.
  • Several department professors are members of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences, the Deutsche Akademie der Naturforscher Leopoldina (German National Academy of Sciences), and the National Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech). Three professors are members of the Academia Europaea, in London.

Top Research Rankings

For many years in a row our department has also been ranked number one in Germany in the Academic Ranking of World Universities, (“Shanghai Ranking”). The ranking is based primarily on the strength of institutions’ research and faculty - publications in important journals, citation ratings, and the number of scientists and alumni with Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals.
