In order to apply for an exchange semester at TUM Informatics, you must first be nominated by your home university. Your home university will likely have a procedure to select students for exchange programs, so contact the international office at your home institution for details on how to apply to be nominated.
After you are nominated by your home university, you can apply for an exchange stay via TUM Global & Alumni Office. The central TUM Global & Alumni Office coordinates all applications and forwards them after the deadline to the respective TUM department, like TUM Department of Informatics.
We will review your application and thereafter TUM Global & Alumni Office will send you more details on how to enroll at TUM. Note that this process typically takes 5-6 weeks after the respective application deadline (May 15 for winter semester or October 31 for summer semester).
Check our website about courses and how to design your learning agreement/study program in order to prepare your stay academically.
Please note that we are only able to accept students for exchange (non-degree) studies who are students at our partner universities and who have been nominated for exchange. Students who have received a DAAD scholarship to study in Germany or have been nominated via a DAAD program may also be eligible to study in our department. TUM does not offer other non-degree studies.
Erasmus+ exchange is open to students currently enrolled at one of TUM Informatics’ partner universities in Europe (filter for Informatics). As an Erasmus exchange student, you will spend one or two semesters studying at TUM Informatics and receive a scholarship to help fund your studies. You then transfer the credits earned at TUM back to your home university and complete your degree there. Your home university can also provide you with information on the Erasmus+ scholarship.

TUM Informatics welcomes students from around the world. Students from TUM’s partner universities outside Europe usually spend one or two semesters as exchange students at TUM Informatics through the centrally organized exchange program (TUMexchange).
Our department also partners with departments at Carnegie Mellon University, Hong Kong Baptist University and NAIST to offer 1-2 semester departmental exchange programs. If you are a student at one of these institutions, please contact your university’s International Office for details about the selection and nomination procedure.
