One of the winners of the John Atanasoff Award 2020 is Dr. Nikola Tchipev who completed his PhD thesis this spring at the TUM Department of Informatics (Chair for Scientific Computing, Prof. Hans-Joachim Bungartz). The John Atanasoff Award by the President of the Republic of Bulgaria was first awarded in 2003 in support of the outstanding achievements of young Bulgarian researchers working in the fields of informatics and information technology. The jury honored Tchipev's PhD thesis "Algorithmic and Implementational Optimizations of Molecular Dynamics Simulations for Process Engineering". The young scientist significantly contributed to a world record in the field of molecular dynamics simulations involving 20 trillion atoms. The prize was awarded on October 10, 2020, in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia.
