Innovative tracking and tracing technologies promise a variety of ways to improve intra- and inter-firm performance processes. The theoretical potential for companies range from improvements in the supply chain and resource planning to unprecedented new business and service models. Despite the high attention that such issues have received in science and practice, there is no systematic exploration of the topic area so far.
Expotrat’s aim is to develop a roadmap for research on tracking and tracing technologies in the 21st century. In addition, the perception of IT decision makers in German companies regarding the topic of RFID should be evaluated.
First, a literature review will be conducted. Second, a quantitative survey will be conducted among decision makers in the area of IT strategy. The aim is to capture the assessment of CXOs regarding the opportunities and threats of future developments of RFID. The investigation and documentation of real pilot and case studies complement this overview. Bases on this, opportunities and threats will be identified.
- Knowledge of the assessment and evaluation of the topic of RFID by CIOs.
- Development of selected case studies on RFID in selected industries.
- Identification and shaping of important fields for future research and development of an iterative research path.
- Development of a roadmap for research and development in the field of tracking and tracing.
The expected results of Expotrat can serve science and businesses as a guide through the ascending area of tracking and tracing technologies. In addition, they form a basis for the advancement of research and the exploitation of business potentials.
