Due to the covid pandemic we have discontinued the in-person semester events, and have introduced the regular events (https://www.in.tum.de/fuer-studierende/chancengleichheit/events/regular-meet-ups/) taking place online 

Past welcome events

The virtual 2020 Welcome Event took place on November 17. After an introduction to the activities of the Women in CS @ TUM, around 70 participants joined four parallel panel tracks:

  • PhD track 
  • Master track
  • Bachelor track
  • Internship & Career track

In each track, the panelists discussed their motivations and experiences on the respective topics and answered many questions in lively discussions.

 

Our 2019 welcome event took place on 18 November. Dr. Lydia Nemec shared with us her career path and how did she became a senior Data Scientist. We also had an workshop in a "World Cafe" style, there were 6 table of discussions, each with one theme around the topic "success in the career". We also shared information about the IFF and had great conversations.

Our 2018 welcome event took place on 6 November. Theresa Best told us her inspirational history of why she chose to be a role model. From gender-specific education of children until the current statistics of women in technology, she gave us the inspiration and explained that we can change the world with small steps. She also shared with us read and women which inspires her. We also shared information about the IFF and had great conversations.

About 80 women and men from in and around the department came together on October 26 to hear about the activities of the IFF, listen to our speaker and have conversations. Annette Leonhard-Macdonald spoke about her experiences during her PhD in Edinburgh and what it was like to found her own company afterwards.

 

Women and men from in and around the department of informatics came together on December 13 to hear about the activities of the Women in CS @ TUM, listen to our speakers and have conversations. Julia Eberl, Microsoft, and Susanne Pielawa, Software Engineering in Google, shared their stories and the challenges faced in the Industry.

About 40 women and men from in and around the department of informatics came together on May 25 to hear about the activities of the Women in CS @ TUM, listen to our speaker and network. Professor Zeynep Akata shared her inspiring story on her career path on becoming a Professor of Computer Science, her research in Machine Learning, and advice she wished she had before starting out.

About 40 women and men from in and around the department of informatics came together on Mai 06 to hear about the activities of the Women in CS @ TUM, listen to our speakers and have conversations. Franziska Divis shared her inspiring story on her career path at Intel and her motivations. We also had a workshop with the theme "Personal Brand", in which the speaker spoke about her own values and interacted with the audience.

About 60 women and men from in and around the department came together on April 30 to hear about the activities of the IFF, listen to our speakers and have conversations. Janina Voigt shared her inspiring story on her career path in tech and how to overcome challenges. Daniel Hugenroth and Claudia Exeler have shared a few tips on how to face an interview on Facebook, showing us how can we beat the odds and crush our code!

Women and men from in and around the department came together on June 01st to hear about the activities of the IFF, listen to our speakers and have conversations. Dr. Angelika Kneidl shared her unique experiences, including the achievement of her PhD in Informatics at TUM.
